Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

The more than 50 acres of spectacular gardens are located on historic property — known to be Powhatan Indian hunting ground and once owned by Patrick Henry – that was purchased by Richmond entrepreneur and philanthropist Lewis Ginter. More than a dozen themed gardens include a Healing Garden, Sunken Garden, Asian Valley, Rose Garden, a wetland garden, a Victorian garden and a one-of-a-kind classical domed Conservatory.Of special interest is the two-acre Children’s Garden where kids can climb a 100-year-old mulberry tree and look for “wigglers” in a worm condominium.Photo: The Children’s Garden Weird and Contrasting Plants that are climbing up and hanging down, soft and prickly, wet and dry, big and little, fragrant and stinky!
