Seattle Chinese Garden

The newly opened Seattle Chinese Garden is the first garden built outside of China in the traditional style of the Sichuan province. Designed in collaboration with Seattle’s sister city in China, Chongqing, the 4.6-acre garden is located at South Seattle Community College and features panoramic views of downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay and the Cascade Mountains, including Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier. The garden is being built in phases, with the first major structure — Knowing the Spring Courtyard – now open. The Garden will feature massive rock formations inspired by China’s Yangtze River gorges and Sichuan horticulture, such as Hemerocallis citrine, Epimedium, Cardiocrinum giganteum, Iris japonica, mahonias, and Corydalis temulifolia.
