Ruth Bancroft Garden

This two-and-one-half acre dry garden demonstrates the dramatic design possibilities of using xerophytes (dry-growing plants) in the landscape. The Garden is the first garden to be sponsored by The Garden Conservancy, an organization dedicated to preserving outstanding examples of private gardens. This garden features over 100 species of African aloes, haworthias, and gasterias, as well as agaves, yuccas, echeverias, and cacti. Pines, palo verde, and mesquite trees provide shade for the more sun sensitive succulents.Photo: Ruth Bancroft in front of Agave franzosinii (early nineties) [ info ]
