Tizer Botanic Gardens

The only botanic garden in Western Montana, Tizer Botanic Gardens is located in the heart of the Elkhorn Mountains, 18 miles south of Helena, , and is 5,000 feet above sea level. Amateur gardeners Richard Krott and Belva Lotzer bought the property in 1997 and began to develop a garden. The garden attracted so much attention that they opened to visitors — first only on weekends, and then every day May through September. There is also a nursery on the property and a 100-year-old homesteaders cabin that the owners restored. The four acre garden includes thousands of plants, some from as far away as Tibet. Visitors will enjoy: the Rose Garden, the Patriotic Garden, the Herb Patch, the Old Time Vegetable Garden, the Children’s Garden, and the Nature TrailThe gardens are part of the Denver Botanic Gardens and Colorado State University Plant Select program.
