Wellfield Botanic Gardens

Located at the site of the city’s historic well field, the underlying theme of this developing 36-acre garden is conservation and restoration of fresh water sources and environs. A lovely running stream is the source for 18 acres of ponds and wetlands. Six acres of mature oaks and hickories are being restored to represent the Great Lakes hardwood savannahs. Future plans call for 19 specialty gardens, including a water garden, sensory garden, sculpture garden, Japanese garden with tea house, and outdoor event gardens. The horticultural display will feature the benefits of maintaining pesticide and chemical free horticulture and turf grass. [ info ]
