Costal Maine Botanical Gardens

Voted #1 botanical garden in the U.S. by TripAdvisor.com, this 250-acre landscape has more than two miles of walks, trails, and drives providing access to the gardens and the natural areas. Along the popular Shore Walk, is the Fern Garden, the Wetlands Garden and the native plant Shoreland Garden. The Entrance Garden is host to the Giles Rhododendron Garden. There’s also the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses, rose and perennial gardens, Burpee kitchen garden, meditation garden, and a charming pond.

The two-acre Bibby and Harold Alfond Children’s Garden is complete with a cottage and the story barn, chicken coop with live chickens, boats to climb in, a maze,  a tree house with a rope bridge, plus veggies, herbs, and flowers galore.

Location: 132 Botanical Gardens Drive, off Barters Island Road in Boothbay.

Open daily, year-round(closed Thanksgiving and Christmas); explore on foot, on snowshoes or on cross-country skis.
