Lauritzen Gardens

Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha’s Botanical Center, is a young garden that’s growing fast. Located on Missouri River bluffs just north of Interstate 80, the 100-acre site includes the Song of the Lark Meadow reminiscent of Nebraska’s prairies, an herb garden, a rose garden, a Victorian garden, shade gardens, a children’s garden, a woodland trail, a four-acre arboretum and bird sanctuary. A Japanese garden is under construction. Kenefick Park, the garden’s newest addition, highlights the Union Pacific Railroad’s role in the development of Omaha and the West. Besides native plants, railroad buffs can view the world’s largest steam locomotive, Big Boy No. 4023, and Centennial locomotives on display. [ info ]
